I'll be frank, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Only a few clicks and a client can set an order with a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A huge one.
This is one the couple freelance platforms at which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail sellers any way that they like.
In this post, I want to share a new bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and I chose to give up on the platform altogether.
(I've been advising her building a reputable accounts, and the way to go above and beyond every previous order. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be like any other... so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (that is usually part of the costlier bundle ).
The client"loved" among the concepts so we proceeded to ship her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the final description.
The customer came back asking for a social media kit to go with the logo, something which is clearly not available as a member of her or his gig.
Against my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the extra work, although not getting paid any extra for it.
Following that, the customer responded with much more demands and a few adjustments to the social media files.
At this point, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the customer went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a response and reach out to Fiverr support for assistance, the client did finally go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was Fiverr Review – All You Need to Know About Fiverr - itsVicky not kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support question, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so that I could punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I still had hope that Fiverr support will step in and save my girlfriend from this PITA client.
After the response came back from Fiverr support, they told that they could Fiverr Reviews Freelance Platforms Companies Best Company not force the purchaser to take the purchase.
Okay, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to show the work has been done in accordance to the gig prerequisites.
Honestly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the customer was attempting to extort her for free work out the agreed conditions, by making a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Obviously, it was not really about the work, it had been about seeking protection in an abusive client who had been blatantly pushing his luck.
Their reply didn't provide us some assurance that Fiverr really knew , and even at this stage we felt like they did not need to get involved.
At exactly the same time, she responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this is feedback that was clearly and intentionally made to bully her to supplying work outside of the agreed terms)
An honest request by anyones standards, right? Well, apparently not.
Instead of acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all the rules.
Since she'd requested the client to modify their opinions, she was no more entitled to any assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
What the purchaser had said and done prior to her very last message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr basically chose to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an account she'd worked so hard to accumulate.
If everything that occurred was not troubling enough, it is knowing view website that this man or woman is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors without a shred of repercussion.
And believe me, there are tons of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
But as most of this was happening, I did some investigating to find out whether some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I discovered a variety of nearly identical cases about the Fiverr forum outdated years back. (that's right, decades.)
This is clearly something which's been happening for a long time and it all stems from giving buyers also much power over vendors.
If there's one thing I have heard about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a job, or how hard you've worked on it, or even how well you handled communication during a dispute, even as it really comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it is a clear cut case in your favour, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" according to their conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Taking a look at the evidence, it is clear to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet remains inclined to sit back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your current support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can set all that time and effort in to building up an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable chance, just to be shot down from the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I really don't need to leave Fiverr. I don't need to be telling people to prevent your own platform.
But after everything that has happened, you haven't left me any selection.
Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do whatever I could to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The next you really do something about it and provide freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update the post.
